Mizeria (which means misery in Latin) is a popular Polish refreshing salad that can be served by itself, or to accompany meat dishes.
According to the legend, this salad was Queen Bona Sforza’s favorite. She was an Italian princess who, in the 16th century, married the king Zygmunt Stary.
Apparently, she was fond of this salad, but eating it moved her to tears. She would cry from homesickness for her native Italy while eating it, because it reminded her of her homeland
